WORKSHOPS

In Morocco, school drop is an extremely worrying a phenomenon, accentuated in rural areas. In addition to the fact that these schools are sometimes poorly maintained and do not provide ideal conditions, there is no extra-curricular activity to increase child’s interest.

In fact, the school’s essential mission, besides its traditional role, is to promote the development, awakening and creativity of children, and thus to support them in becoming fulfilled and responsible future adults.

In this sense, creating and installing a new space dedicated to development, awakening expression and creativity was our way to address the issue.  This kind of space are particularly restricted in rural areas, and especially for little girls. Indeed, the latter are subject to the very strong weight of traditions and stop schooling very early.

This is how the ABT-MF ACADEMY project was born. À join project of the association ‘Morocco Foundation’ and of the association ‘A Better Tomorrow’.

The ABT-MF Academy program aims to intervene directly at the level of the children and their environment and to foster the personal and educational development of rural students in order to improve their chances of success as adults.

·      Concept of the ‘ABT-MF Academy’:

Implementing an annual program of educational workshops (Cultural, artistic, Hygiene Awareness) in a renovated dedicated space.

This program is provided by a facilitator recruited and trained by the ‘ABT-MF Academy’

·      Ambition :

Convinced by the relevance of this program, our common ambition is to deploy and duplicate this program of workshops in the different regions of Morocco and school groups where we intervene in order to support as many children as possible throughout the 6 years of the cycle and throughout the time.

·      Our drivers :

 Fulfillment

 Creativity

 Self-confidence

·      Our drivers :

– Promote the fulfilment and strengthen the student’s self-confidence– Develop children’s creativity (plastic arts, theatre, etc.)– Contribute to the awakening of children        (questioning, seeking information, argumentation, etc.)– Encourage students to give meaning to their schooling (profession workshop, school orientation, etc.)– Strengthen the level of communication and help children use the different means of expression (oral, written, artistic, etc.)– Reinforce the importance of universal moral values (respect, solidarity, group spirit, etc.)– Revitalize the teaching practices of teachers and promote their involvement in school life.– Establish a positive link with school and learning: further education, questioning, openness to the world….

·      Deployment Mode

Where ?

In each school where the program is deployed, a room that will be dedicated to workshops is renovated, furnished (table, chairs, shelves, etc.), equipped (TV, DVD, internet, computer, library, etc.) and decorated, in order to provide a space dedicated for the children.✅Who ? The workshops are led by a locally recruited facilitator, trained and supervised by the ABT-MF Academy team.In order to guarantee the sustainability and homogeneity of its deployment, the facilitator has an annual program of workshops by level as well as educational sheets. Each workshop is associated with an educational sheet describing in detail the expected course of each workshop.✅How ?– Each class/group participates in a weekly workshop of one hour.– The workshops are for pupils from the first to the sixth year of primary school.– The workshops cover a wide variety of disciplines aimed at promoting the development, awakening and creativity of children: plastic arts, storytelling, nursery rhymes, puppets, theatre, musical awakening, games, comics, cinema club, celebration of world days…..The entire program is organized around transversal themes such as: “Me and my close entourage”, “my environment”, “Cultural diversity”….– Moreover, given the fact that children are very poorly informed about jobs and not aware of the necessity to continue their education beyond primary school; as part of the program, it is also offered information workshops on job, school orientation sessions,….The objective is to promote the continuation of education beyond primary school, by guiding children to define their life project and to make conscious educational choices that will allow them to give meaning to their learning and prepare them as well as entering college. These workshops are deployed for the benefit of 6th year primary school students
